Sharon Tiedemann

My name is Sharon Tiedemann and I have been a trainee at the Fraunhofer IWKS facility since November 1, 2020. Due to the current Corona pandemic, I am particularly proud to be able to start an apprenticeship in marketing communications at Fraunhofer IWKS. The pandemic, which was accompanied by short-time work and hiring freezes, made the search for a proper apprenticeship quite difficult, but with Fraunhofer it was not impossible.

Ever since I can remember, I knew that I wanted to develop creatively and be in contact with people in my future profession. Even during my school years, I took advantage of every opportunity to do an internship in various industries and fields, but the career fields had one thing in common: creative expression, a free approach and contact with people. Whether it was photography, elementary school teaching or architecture, I got a taste of everything. That's why neither I nor my family and friends were surprised that one of the subjects I studied in my A-levels was art, or that I was accepted at a design college. I decided to train as a marketing communications specialist because I had already attended a dual study program in the field of market and media psychology. This already gave me an insight into the theoretical part of the training to become a marketing communications specialist. I have realized that this training fulfills all my professional wishes and that this is the path I want to take in the end.

Business people for marketing communication

The three-year training mainly takes place in the company and is supported by two half days at the vocational school.
To be successful and happy in this profession, you should be communicative and open to new ideas. You should also have a creative streak and enjoy communicating with others. Of course, you should not shy away from contact with people.

You can encounter all kinds of tasks during your training.
Be it developing a slogan or an advertising campaign, creating an Instagram, Twitter or Facebook post, maintaining the company website or calculating all the advertising costs incurred.

The tools of advertising can be as varied as the businesses that provide this training, but the educational content unites them all.

Further education

With an apprenticeship as a marketing communications specialist, you can achieve a lot and, of course, continue your education.
I would like to show you these possibilities.

Following the apprenticeship and with two years of professional experience, you can continue your education to become a marketing specialist. This corresponds to the European standard of a Bachelor and thus to the educational level 6.

You can also train to become a state-certified business economist for marketing communications. For this, a three-year part-time course of study is attached to the training.

A future as a specialist in advertising and communications is also possible. After completing the training and gaining one year's work experience, it is possible to complete further training in one and a half years, which will enable you to take on management responsibilities later on.

However, it is also possible to study after graduation. Marketing or business administration are good fields of study and waiting times can be shortened with vocational training in this field.

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft also offers many exciting opportunities for continuing education and dual or part-time studies.
