About Holger Helten

Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU), Institute of Inorganic Chemistry and Institute for Sustainable Chemistry & Catalysis with Boron (ICB)

Holger Helten graduated from the University of Würzburg and obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Bonn. After a postdoctoral stint at the University of Bristol (UK), he started his independent career at RWTH Aachen University, where he completed his habilitation in 2018. He declined offers from the University of Wuppertal and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, before he accepted an offer from the University of Würzburg in 2019, where he now holds the position of the head of the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry I. He is also a co-head of the Institute for Sustainable Chemistry & Catalysis with Boron (ICB).

Holger Helten received several awards and grants, including the ter-Meer-Award, the Emmy Noether and the Heisenberg Grant of the DFG. His research interests focus on the development of environmetally benign synthetic concepts and the application thereof to access novel inorganic–organic hybrid materials, which includes polymers, polymer networks, and molecular materials, with a special focus on materials from renewable resources.

He currently serves as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry of Pharmacy, and he is a member of the Sustainability Commission of the University of Würzburg as well as the Division of Sustainable Chemistry at the GDCh.
