Can Europe afford to lose its metals? Towards an effective Circular Economy for raw materials

From electric mobility to Industry 4.0, raw materials and especially metals are the key to many high-tech applications. But in order to secure the supply of these raw materials for the industry in Europe, resource efficiency and closed-loop recycling processes need to be established. Is Europe ready for this?

The German Resource Research Institute GERRI discusses this very question together with high-level representatives from politics, research and industry. On behalf of GERRI and as one of the founding members of the initiative, we cordially invite you to our roundtable discussion:

The roundtable will touch on both latest research as well as industry and market developments regarding the establishment of an effective recycling of metals and thus regain of raw materials. GERRI intends to raise awareness and communicate the German perspective and expertise on the critical processing infrastructure and know-how that is required for a sustainable raw materials supply in the EU. Given an ever increasing dependency on imports of raw materials, price volatility in the market and finite resources, the key role of metal recycling for developing green cities, switching entirely to renewable energies and electric mobility will also be a focus in the discussion. Furthermore, the idea of a European smart digital process platform that links product design with recycling capacities and intersectoral information infrastructure is part of the debate.

After the roundtable, journalists will have the opportunity for 1-on-1interviews with the participants (upon request). As we do have limited seating, please RSVP to Mrs. Claudia Gueth (info@gerri-germany.org) until February 19, 2019.

We look forward to welcoming you.
