State Secretary Christoph Degen visits Fraunhofer IWKS: Focus on future technologies for sustainability

Christoph Degen, State Secretary in the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Art and Culture, visited Fraunhofer IWKS in Hanau. He was accompanied by Heiko Kasseckert, Member of the State Parliament, and Prof. Dr. Thomas Walter, Vice President for Innovation and International Affairs at Technical University of Darmstadt.

In conversation with institute Executive Director Prof. Dr. Peter Dold, the focus was on current research projects in the field of battery recycling and innovative hydrogen technologies. During a tour of the Fraunhofer IWKS technical center, guests gained valuable insights into the recycling, recovery, and reuse of rare earths and other valuable raw materials for the energy transition.

State Secretary Degen emphasized the importance of the research work: "Fraunhofer IWKS is researching future technologies with high social relevance. With its research projects in the fields of battery recycling and hydrogen technologies, it is making a valuable contribution to sustainability and the desired transport and energy transition, while also keeping an eye on the economic and geopolitical situation.
