Chemical processing

One focus of research in the field of separation and comminution technologies is the development of chemical separation processes. Fraunhofer IWKS has various innovative techniques for recovering valuable materials at its disposal, which are further developed and adapted according to customer requirements.

Recovery of valuable materials via the gas phase

Solid-gas reactions offer the possibility of selectively converting certain valuable metals into a gaseous compound and thus separating them. At Fraunhofer IWKS, so-called ‘chemical transport reactions’ are used as the basis for the development of new technologies in close cooperation with industry partners for the recovery of valuable materials.

Leaching and extraction processes

Successful separation processes include various wet chemical methods such as leaching, precipitation reactions and extraction processes. Fraunhofer IWKS is engaged in the further development of various wet chemical separation methods for the recovery of critical elements.
