Open house day in Alzenau

On 4th of June the Fraunhofer Project Group for Materials Recycling and Resource Strategies IWKS, which has been situated in Alzenau since the autumn of 2011, will open its doors to the public between 1 and 5 p.m. in Brentanostraße 2. The occasion is the “German Day of Action on Sustainability”, to kick off a three-day conference on sustainable development in Rio.

Die Fraunhofer Project Group IWKS wishes to contribute to safeguarding the supply of raw materials to our industries in the long term, in order to further enable the development of future technologies. To this end, the Alzenau Fraunhofer experts are researching new separation, sorting, processing and substitution possibilities, together with partners from industry, and are developing recycling strategies to deal with valuable resources.

Visitors can become informed on 4 June about the working areas resource strategies, recycling technologies and materials substitution at the new Fraunhofer facilities. The IWKS celebrated its opening on 5 September in the presence of Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Martin Zeil, District Administrator Dr Ulrich Reuter and the then Mayor Walter Scharwies and his successor Dr Alexander Legler, and immediately commenced its work will a small core team.

Since then a number of projects have already been completed together with industry and the group has been expanded. It was possible to employ a number of new employees. The IWKS Project Group is affiliated to the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC in Würzburg and works closely with the materials researchers there.
